External linking (from other sites) shouldn’t be very heavily optimized for anchor text. The more links that you amass back to your website from other authoritative websites, the greater the likelihood is of improving the visibility your website receives in search engines.

Start by creating true 10x content
A good trick is to dig into your Google Analytics to see the top visited pages on your site. When you write headlines, it is not absolutely mandatory that you use keyphrases, but you get a decent bump in the search engines for putting them in headlines which are bolded with a larger font than the other text and capitalized.
