With so many options, many brands and marketers are left to ask: What are the best tactics for SEO? And even more, what are the strategies that will produce the best long-term results? One of the most important steps when starting with SEO is to align it with your wider goals. It’s useful to set initial goals for what you want to achieve with your content to explore how to involve SEO in the process. Do not copy another site’s content without asking permission first. It’s bad for you, the site you’re copying from and the reader too. SEO isn’t magic or voodoo. I know some SEO consultants will make you believe they possess magical powers and only they can optimize your website, but don’t listen to them.
Leverage the work your competitors have already done in link building
There are different areas of basic SEO you need to address in order to get onto the first page of google. Some of these factors you can't control - for example the age of your site apparently holds weight in the google algorithm. I've seen new pages soar though, so don't assume you're lack of first page success is just because your blog is new. Google has several bots:
Googlebot (desktop), Googlebot (mobile), Googlebot Video, Googlebot Images, Googlebot News. For most websites, the Googlebots for desktop and mobile are the most important bots. SEO ranking improves when visitors stay on your site longer, view more pages, and repeat their visits. The more user-friendly your site is, the more likely this is going to happen. You need to see things from your customers’ point of view and, more importantly, you need to write the things that appeal to their viewpoint.
Leads are the lifeblood of a business
Content marketing is the process of developing unique content that is useful for your target market – often without selling whatsoever. Meta description tags can
influence click-throughs but aren't directly used for rankings. Now, as you might expect from Google, the definition of what constitutes a good landing page experience is a little vague and can vary widely from one page to another. Keywords are still a factor in content, but with the Hummingbird update in 2013, the way they are used, viewed, and searched has changed dramatically.
Publish blog posts frequently and consistently optimize them
The Internet, or World Wide Web as it was once known, really is a kind of web. Websites feature links that lead to other websites, featuring yet more links leading to still more websites, and so on. Becoming a memorable part of that web will take lots of work and involve creating many links to other parts of the web, just like other websites do. Seek out industry-relevant and locally-relevant links from groups and websites with which you already have an offline relationship. On-page content is a critical component of on-page
SEO. Content is what the search engine crawlers
need to associate your page with a set of keywords
and/or key phrases. Without it, crawlers are left in the
dark as to what your page is about. Gaz Hall, from SEO Hull
, had the following to say: "The pages have to create unique enough value that they can be distinguished from other similar pages by the search engines. Lacking that intrinsic value, they will have to be distinguished by inbound linkage."
Look at underperforming but related posts on your site
I have seen my share of websites where the owner told me that conversion was low or that nobody filled out their contact form. But the owner had no idea how many people got to his/her website. No idea what the main landing pages or exit pages were. Search Engine Optimization is
a very hot topic on the World Wide Web. After-all, everybody wants to rank higher and come up on the first page of Google search and get more traffic. SEO works by modifying elements on a website like the meta title and meta description of a page to ‘optimize’ it to get the most possible traffic. ‘Keyword targeting’ can determine which words you should be aiming for, and getting links from other high authority sites and creating relevant content on your web page and via articles on your site can shift your website up in search rankings over time. If you recently moved to HTTPS or you plan to do so, mixed content is something you’ll most likely have to deal with.
